I’m sure you’ve heard us ask, “What’s your highlight of the week?” or even, “What was the best part of your weekend”.
It’s a simple question we tend to ask at the start and end of the week. More often than not, people scoff, shrug, or say “nothing.” We get it… life is full, stressful, and sometimes overwhelming. It can feel hard to pause and pull something good into focus. And sometimes it can feel repetitive. But that’s exactly why we ask.
Gratitude isn’t about ignoring the hard stuff. It’s about noticing that alongside the challenges, there are also small, meaningful moments worth holding onto. Sharing highlights helps us slow down and remember that joy when so often it gets overlooked.
In the gym, it might be realizing your squat depth is improving, or noticing you recovered faster after a tough workout. Outside the gym, it could be your kid’s laughter, a good night’s sleep, or that first sip of coffee in the morning.
Gratitude is more than a feel-good practice. Studies show it improves mental health, lowers stress, and even boosts physical well-being. When we pause to acknowledge the good in our lives, we literally rewire the brain to look for the positive instead of getting stuck on the negative. One highlight won’t transform your outlook, but week after week, it changes how you see the world. You start to notice the good more often, even in tough seasons.
So the next time you hear us ask on a Friday, “What’s your highlight of the week?”—take a moment to find one. It doesn’t have to be big or impressive. The small things count just as much!
